Union baseball

On June 15, Union went to Cedar Falls to take on NUHS. NU jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings. The Knights got back in it with four of their own in the third. Justin Murphy, Jake Reiter, and Will Crees all had RBI hits in the innings. NU came right back with four runs in the third and fourth innings to take the game 14-4. Justin Murphy had two hits and two RBI’s for the Knights. Jake Reiter took the loss allowing four earned runs on seven hits and three walks.

Union hosted Wapsie the following night and came away with a 7-2 win. Blake Clark went six innings for the win allowing two runs on six hits and four walks. He struck out nine. Union scored all of their runs in the fourth when four consecutive hits started the inning. Justin Murphy and Garrett Prestemon both had two RBI’s in the innings. Will Crees added two hits for the Knights who gained their second win.

At Hudson June 17, Union lost a tough battle 11-8. Union led most of the game thanks to some hard hitting. Garrett Prestemon got Union rolling with a two run homer in the first, scoring Will Crees who had doubled. After Hudson took a 3-2 lead, the Knights came right back with three of their own on Chase Kruckmeyer’s three run shot. They added two more in the fifth and one in the sixth to keep the lead. Meanwhile, Garrett Prestemon was holding Hudson at bay on the mound. In the end, shaky defense caught up to them and Hudson plated five runs in the sixth. Prestemon allowed six earned runs on 12 hits and three walks. He struck out four. Union falls to 2-13.
