Union High School Baseball beats A-P

Union opened the week at Denver with a 6-1 loss. Offensively, the bats were silent as they managed only two hits. Blake Clark went the distance for Union allowing four earned runs on seven hits and three walks. He struck out five and retired the last nine hitters in a row.

Union got a 9-1 win at home against Aplington-Parkersburg the following night. The Knights got on top right away with a four-run first inning highlighted by a Jake Reiter double and a two-run single by Justin Murphy. They added one in the fourth, then in the fifth Hunter Zempel knocked in three runs with a bases loaded double. Garrett Prestemon allowed one earned run on five hits and two walks while striking out seven for the win.

On June 24, Jesup thumped Union 15-2. The Knights were outhit only 12-10, but left 11 runners on base. Reid Monroe took the loss for Union giving up six earned runs on six hits and two walks. He was victimized by four Union errors. Jake Reiter, Chase Kruckmeyer, Reid Monroe and Justin Murphy each had two hits for the Knights who now stand 3-15 overall.
