Knights take one of twin bill

Waterloo Columbus visited La Porte City on July 2, and hung a 12-1 loss on the Knights. Union hurlers gave up 18 hits to the hard-hitting sailors as Garrett Prestemon took the loss. Garrett had two of Union’s three hits and Justin Murphy added an RBI single.

After a rainy week, the Knights went to South Tama and split a twin bill. Garrett Prestemon went the distance in game one allowing three earned runs on six hits, four walks, and five strike outs. Offensively, Union capitalized on nine walks and several South Tama errors. Cole Hinders, Garrett Prestemon, and Chase Kruckmeyer each had RBI hits.

In game two, Union was plagued by walks plus crucial errors. Union scored four in the first inning on three hits, a walk, and a South Tama error. The big hit was a run scoring single by Blake Clark. The offense went cold from there as the Knights stranded six runners in scoring position. Blake Clark took the loss for Union, now 6-18.
