Rapid Recap: Knights overpower Vikings, 51-0

By

Cheyne Reiter

The Union Knights manhandled the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings Friday night by a final of 51-0. With the win, the Knights clinched home field advantage for their first playoff game as they will host the 3A District 6 No. 3 seed, Washington Demons.

Union stormed out to a 38-0 halftime lead as the offense, defense, and special teams all contributed to the outstanding Knight effort.

The Knights clinched their fourth consecutive playoff appearance in just five seasons under Joe Hadachek. Not only will the Knights be in the playoffs once again, they will also host the first round game for the third consecutive year. Two years ago, the Knights defeated the Oelwein Huskies to make their first ever second round appearance but fell last year to Clear Creek-Amana 22-15 in their opening round matchup. As the Knights are clicking on all cylinders, expect to hear some noise come Wednesday night as the 2011 team hopes to do just as their motto says…Leave a Legacy.
