Track team builds on success in season’s second meet

The Union High School boys track team had another good showing at the Hudson Invitational last week, with several athletes posting personal bests in the running and throwing events.

Kyle Ansley, who set a school record in the Shot Put in the season’s opening meet, was not far off his mark when he threw a 53′ 6.5″ this time around. He finished in first place in the event.

In the Discus, Josh Clark also finished first, throwing for an impressive 142′ 9″.

In the 100 Meter Dash, Trev Hadachek earned second place with a time of 11.40 seconds. Wes Burnside also had a strong showing, coming in third at 11.56.

Hadacheck also added points for his team in the 200 Meter Dash with his third place finish, clocking in at 23.06. His third place finish in the Long Jump was the result of a 19′ 9.75″ leap.

In the relay events, the 4X200 Meter Relay team of Burnside, Hadachek, Noah Garwood and Justin Carey ran a combined 1:36.70, earning the Knights a second place finish.

Head Coach Adam Gassman was pleased with the results he saw in the team’s second week of action.

“I was happy with the effort from Thursday night,” Gassman said. “We had over ten personal bests Thursday night, which was outstanding.”

Union was in action again on Tuesday and Thursday of last week in Independence and Hudson, respectively. Results of those contests were not available at the time of print. The Knights next meet is Tuesday, April 24, at 4:30 p.m. in Dike-New Hartford.
