Big homecoming win

The Union Knights only had 28 offensive plays in four quarters in Friday night’s 69-0 win over Waterloo Columbus in La Porte City but 16 of those plays were first downs and ten of the plays were touchdowns. Resulting in a TD every 2.8 plays.

Isaiah Vaughan had a big night with five touchdowns in the first half. He played two plays in the second half and finished with 245 yards in 17 carries, six touchdowns behind an punishing offensive line. Junior QB Troy Hanus had a good night also where he was 6 of 7 for 155 yards and two TDs, one INT. His two favorite receivers were junior Koby Alpers, with three catches for 85 yards and two TDs, and John Boisen with three catches for 70 yards. Brit Rolison also ran the ball for 56 yards in three carries and had two TDs.

The stingy Knight defense was led by senior Brock Hadachek who had 9 tackles, with 2.5 TFL, and Jace Glenn (five tackles, 1 TFL). Six other Knights had four tackles. The Knights defense had 11 tackles for loss and three sacks. The defense also created three turnovers with a fumble recovery by Quentin Kinsel, and two interceptions by Clayton Thiele and Tate Hookham.

Dakota Hora continues to lead 2A in kicking and PATs.

The Knights travel to Upper Iowa U on Friday night for a key district game with Waukon.

Knights beat Dyersville-Beckman 42-7

Union traveled to Dyersville-Beckman for a 2A D4 match up on Friday, September 23 and won 42-7.

DB scored first on a pass play to Mack Brown from Joel Vaske to go up 7-0. It was the third play of the game and it would be the last points scored by the home team. From that point onward Union dominated the game with a stingy defense, great special teams play, and an offense featuring the talents of running back Isaiah Vaughan. Vaughan scored FIVE touchdowns in the first half helping the Knights command a 42-7 lead.

The Union offense was clicking behind the arm of junior QB Troy Hanus (Hahn-us) as he was 9 of 13 for 121 yards and added a TD of his own in the first half by running the ball. Hanus had 5 rushes for 27 yards. His favorite target of the night was John Boisen who had three catches, while

Dylan Stech and Koby Alpers each had two. Ryan Miller and Vaughan each had one.

In the run game department it was all Vaughan. After being out two weeks he picked up where he left off and ran for 275 yards and five touchdowns in 29 carries. Sophomore Brit Rolison had six carries for 22 yards and Bryce Parker carried the ball three times for 17 yards.

On defense there were ten tackles for loss lead by Daycen Douglass and Brock Hadachek with two each. Hadachek and Kinsel each had five tackles, followed by Douglass and Alpers with four. Five players were tied with three tackles. Douglass had a fumble recovery and Koby Alpers had an interception in the turnover department.

Kicking game wise Sr Dakota Hora continues to lead the state in kickoffs and also PATs. He was six of six on PATs. It was the fourth consecutive game where the punt team was not utilized by Union.
