As COVID-19 took many of the norms high school students are accustomed to, Commencement was able to be held at least semi-normal.

North Tama graduated 37 students Sunday, May 9.

Graduation ceremonies were held in the high school gym. Graduating seniors entered the gym to a processional played by the North Tama concert band.

Students, staff, family and friends were welcomed by senior class president Paden Ketter.

Attendees were treated to musical numbers including “I Gotta Feeling” by the concert band and “Seasons of Love” by the Mixed Chorus.

Left - North Tama class president Paden Ketter joked with his classmates wondering aloud who gave him the microphone as he gave his welcome speech at Graduation Ceremonies Sunday, May 9.

Commencement addresses were given by Dylan Hosek and Madison Stoneking. Both addressed the unusual year they all went through and gave words of hope and encouragement to their fellow classmates. Students also watched a senior video which showed a baby picture and senior picture of each graduate.

Principal Andrew Meister presented scholastic awards including this year’s valedictorians Dylan Husak, Paden Ketter and Madison Stoneking.

Lastly seniors received their diplomas which were presented by school board members Haley Blaine, Chreyl Popelka and Rod Zobel.

As students walked across the stage the shook hands, flipped their tassels and picked up a red rose.

Following the ceremony seniors gathered on the lawn where they were greeted with handshakes, hugs and smiles from family and friends.
