According to a report released Friday afternoon by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Tama County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at 4:35 a.m. Friday, June 18 from a rural residence seven miles southwest of Traer.

Upon arrival, law enforcement found Ryan Cooper, 42, deceased in what appeared to be a violent death.

An investigation is being conducted by the Tama County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa DCI and the Tama County Attorney’s Office.

**UPDATE (6/19): An autopsy performed Saturday by the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner concluded the death of Ryan Cooper was a homicide; and the manner of death to be a gunshot wound.

Officials from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation said in a Saturday press release that there was no threat to the community relating to the shooting Friday.
