Ernest J. Weaver, 99

Ernest J. Weaver, 99, of Traer, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. Visitation will be held at Overton Funeral Home in Traer on Friday, August 30, 2013 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a service the following day at 10:30 a.m. Burial will occur at Buckingham Cemetery.

Ernest James Weaver was born August 1, 1914, in Reinbeck, IA, son of Peter and Rose (Fisher) Weaver. He began his elementary education in country school near Reinbeck and graduated Traer High School in 1932. Ernest was the last living member of his graduating class of 32 students. After graduation he began farming with his father and uncle. On August 1, 1939, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Uchytil at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Tama. They made their home farming all their married life on a farm east of Traer. After Kathryn’s death on July 23, 2009, he remained on the farm. In 2010, he moved to assisted living at Sunrise Hill in Traer. Ernest’s death came at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo on Saturday, August 24, 2013, at the age of 99 years. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and Tama County Farm Bureau. Ernest enjoyed bowling in leagues, playing cards with friends, watching his favorite sports team, often staying up late to see the outcome. He enjoyed gardening and loved to cook and eat quality food. His travels took him to Alaska and Hawaii and many parts of the U.S. with their friends and relatives. His real passion was farming and he continued to remain current on farming trends that were happening by reading various farming publications. He was known for his excellent memory. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, one son, Dennis; two grandsons, Rob Casey and Chris Weaver; three brothers, Ted, Edward and Leonard; and one sister, Mildred Kullmer. He is survived by two daughters, Karla (Robert) Casey of Traer and Cynthia (Wade) Mitchell of Buckingham; four grandsons and seven great-grandchildren.
