Herman Marcus Lucht, 82, of Gladbrook, went to meet his Lord on November 2, 2013, with his family at his side. He was born to Adolf and Magda (Wiggers) Lucht, on September 29, 1931, on the family farm by Garwin. Herman was paralyzed with polio on his fifteenth birthday. He went to Garwin High School and graduated with the class of 1949. He was married on December 4, 1951, to Ethel Stamp. They farmed all of their lives in the Garwin area. Herman became a member of the Garwin United Methodist Church as a youth, was a member of the Crusaders Sunday School class and was a former church trustee. He was also a longtime member of the Lions Club, served in leadership in Boy Scouts, was a member of the Polka Club, belonged to numerous card clubs, managed the “Garwin Courts,” and enjoyed dancing the waltz. Herman is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ethel; three sons, Dale (Therese) of Allentown, Pennsylvania, Dennis of Marshalltown and Gene (Gail) of Ankeny; six grandchildren, Kristina (Kevin) Peak of Burlington, Rebecca Juarez of Marshalltown, Chris Lucht of Lafayette, Louisiana, Adam Lucht of Minneapolis, Sierra Lucht of Ankeny and Dakota Lucht of Ankeny; five great grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen (Lloyd) Haynes and Mary Wheeler of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Steve; his parents; a sister, Wilma (Kenneth) Busch; a brother in law, Colin Wheeler; and a nephew, Bruce Haynes.
