Pamela K. Miller, 59

Pamela K. Miller, 59, of La Porte City, died Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Covenant Medical Center from complications related to ovarian cancer. She was born on July 14th, 1954 in Waterloo the daughter of Raymond and Patricia Condon Craft. She was a 1972 graduate of La Porte City High School and a 1989 graduate of Hawkeye Community College School of Nursing. She married Steven J. Miller on December 15, 1972 in La Porte City.

Pam worked as a registered nurse in several places, most recently at the La Porte City Elementary School.

Pam was a devoted sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. Pam had many loves, talents, friends, kids, and grandkids.

She loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and her siblings with all her heart. Pam and Steve were married 41 years this past December. She loved spending time with him, her kids, her grandchildren, her siblings and her friends. Pam enjoyed nothing more than seeing those around her happy; her individual issues were of secondary importance.

Pam was talented in any job or challenge she put her mind to. Her biggest talent was making people feel loved. She had a talent for making people laugh and feel like they are the most important person in the world. Pam was a friend to everybody. In our eyes, and we’re confident others will say the same; she is the best person they have ever met. Friends from school, the bleachers, work, La Porte, Dysart and beyond will miss this talent and smile.

Pam and Steve raised four kids on a farm south of La Porte. They provided everything a family needs; a roof, clothes, discipline, respect, work ethic, and without a doubt a love that a mother only knows. A love that we will carry with us for the rest of our lives.

For the last eleven years Pam was a grandmother to Kennedy, Braden, Ellerson, Delaney, Kerigan, Cole, Ryder, Luke, and Maddie. They had a grandmother who loved them more than they will ever know. Her love and creativity was reflected in every family gathering and the kids never knew what to expect. From nightglow scavenger hunts to kite flying, from trivia contests to Easter Egg shoot outs; Pam leaves us with all the funny, goofy, wonderful memories only a grandmother has a knack for making.

Survived by: her husband, Steve of La Porte City; two daughters, Kelly (Doug) Uhlenhopp and Heather (Trent) Miller all of Bondurant; two sons, Chris (Kate) Miller of Des Moines and Eric (Amy) Miller of Ankeny; nine grandchildren, Kennedy, Braden, Ellerson, Delaney, Kerigan, Cole, Ryder, Luke and Maddie; three brothers, Michael (LeAnn) Craft of La Porte City, Larry (Deb) Craft of La Porte City, Bob (Teri) Craft of Hawaii; and one sister, Susan Kahler of Des Moines.

Preceded in death by her parents.

There will be a short visitation Saturday (1-25-14) at The Rusty Pig, 212 Main Street, La Porte City from 1-5 pm. Following the request of Pam, there will be a private family inurnment that will take place in the West View Cemetery at a later date.
