Donald L. Crawford, 87

Donald Lewis Crawford was born in Traer, Iowa, on July 20, 1927, the son of Ralph and Edith (Lewis) Crawford. In his early years, Donald helped with work on the farm and dairy his family operated. He graduated from Traer High School and served in the United States Army. After his honorable discharge from service, he attended Iowa State University. He married Darletta Hach in Dysart and later divorced. In 1969, Donald was united in marriage to Verna Nelson. He farmed west of Traer for fifty years before moving into town. Donald enjoyed working with his cattle herds, his horses, and driving his dogsled team in the winter. Donald died at the age of 87 on Monday, August 4, 2014, at Rosewood Estates in Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Verna; a brother, Bob Crawford; a stepdaughter, Kathy Glawe; and a stepson, Jim Nelson. Donald is survived by two daughters, Kathy (John) Brady of Evansdale and Carolyn (Bob) Howe of Solon; thirteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a sister, Donna (Don) Wolfgram; a sister-in-law, Shirley Crawford; and many nieces and nephews.
