Marlys J. Tomlinson, 84

Marlys Jean Tomlinson, 84, of Traer passed away Sunday, August 3, 2014 at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer with the family at her side after a long illness with cancer. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the United Presbyterian Church in Traer with Pastor Brice Hoyt officiating. Interment will follow at Buckingham Cemetery in Traer. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2014 from 10 AM until the time of service at the church.

Marlys was born on March 16, 1930, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Matilda (Horstman) Karkosh.

She graduated from Dinsdale High School in 1947.

On June 27, 1949, she was united in marriage to Donald William Tomlinson in Dubuque, Iowa. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Marlys enjoyed living and working on the farm. She enjoyed her hobby of ceramics, going ballroom or square dancing, and camping and traveling when the kids were at home. She liked to cook and try new recipes. She looked forward to the family coming home and welcoming each new grandchild and great grandchild.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one granddaughter, Jennifer Peters; and two brothers-in-law, Paul Howard and Delbert Jensen; ; and a sister, Barbara Karkosh in infancy.

Survivors include her husband, Donald of Traer; two daughters, Janice (Paul) Peters of Wellsburg and Audrey (Michael II) Macri of Clive; one son, Mark (Cindy) Tomlinson of Traer; seven grandchildren, Angela (Matthew) Buttjer of Aplington, Andrew and John Peters of Wellsburg, Michael III (Kristin) Macri of Clive, Matthew (Megan) Macri of Chicago, IL, Steffanie (Kevin) Bonnstetter of Knoxville and Dallas (Kaitlyn) Tomlinson of Traer; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, LaVonne Jensen of Reinbeck and Marcia (Robert) Howard Ketter of Traer.

A memorial fund has been established.
