Jackie “Jack” H. McKinney, 62

Jackie “Jack” Howard McKinney was born on April 7, 1952, in Waterloo, the son of Herbert Ray and Ramona (Key) McKinney.

Jack grew up in Traer and graduated from North Tama High School with the class of 1970. In 1972, he enlisted in the United States Army National Guard and served in the Reserves for five years. Following his time in the service, Jack worked for Funks Seed in Iowa, Florida and Wisconsin. He then moved to Nebraska and worked for Duncan Aviation. He later moved back to Iowa and worked as a mechanic and inspector technician for various companies, most recently Interpower Company in the Ames office. In 1982, Jack was married to Geralyn Babinat and had three children. They later divorced. He enjoyed working in his garage and gardening. Jack died at the age of 62, on Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Elizabeth; and another unnamed infant. Jack is survived by two sons, Jesse (Tess Schwenka) McKinney of Johnston, Iowa and Josh McKinney of State Center, Iowa; a daughter, Carly (Evan Marten) McKinney of Jacksonville, North Carolina; three sisters, Patti Kupka of Clutier, Iowa, Delores McKinney of Tampa, Florida, and Rebecca Carter of Willow Springs, Missouri; and six nieces. Jack will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
