Union students at MATHCOUNTS

Recently Union competed in the nationwide math competition called MATHCOUNTS. The top 10 students in order were: Lauren Harrigan, Payton Hellman, Daniel Johanningmeier, Emily Schmidt, Josh Lawrinenko, Carter Spore, Taylor Short, Kody Crawford, Austin Timmer, and Isaac Sebetka. Congratulations to these 10 students. They went on to the annual Chapter MATHCOUNTS competition at Hawkeye Community College. Twenty-six students represented Union Middle School at the NE Iowa Chapter of MATHCOUNTS. They were Team Members: Payton Hellman, Lauren Harrigan, Daniel Johanningmeier, and Emily Schmidt. Individuals were Carter Spore, Taylor Short, Josh Lawrinenko, Kody Crawford, Emily Wilson, and Isaac Sebetka. Austin Timmer qualified as an individual, but was unable to attend. The following students also represented Union as alternates: Cade Rahlf, Jacob Lowe, Wesley Hanson, Abby Johnson, Josh Ternus, Sam Ollendieck, Zeke Seuser, Val Ryan, Rashawn Williams, Nolan Havran, Jenna Steinlage, Rachel Hellman, Logan Brown, Emma Sebetka, Gabe Hines, and Carlie Hoppe.
Union Middle School finished 7th out 14 teams. Payton Hellman was 10th individually out of 149 students. Other students in the top 20% of the contest were: Lauren Harrigan, Emily Schmidt, Carter Spore, Jacob Lowe and Cade Rahlf. Jacob Lowe and Cade Rahlf both earned Top Alternate honors and received a trophy for their accomplishments. Great job to all of our students who represented us well!
