The Redhawk baseball squad finished the first week of the season with three wins and one loss. They started the season with a decisive 21-0 victory over the Meskwaki Warriors. The following two night’s games were affected by rain. On Tuesday, the South Tama Trojans came to Traer and played three and a half innings before the rain interrupted the game. North Tama had a 7-6 lead at that point, but was forced to suspend play after the storm rolled through town. Rain on Wednesday forced the Redhawks to cancel a doubleheader against Northeast Hamilton. The games will be made up at a later date. North Linn was next on the schedule, with games at Troy Mills. Both JV and Varsity came up with big wins on the night, defeating the Lynx 14-4 and 11-0. Brendan Boerm threw a complete game shutout in the win, striking out eight batters while surrendering only two hits. On Memorial Day at J.L. Lister Field, the baseball team hosted a tournament including NU High and Colo Nesco. In the first game, the Redhawks were victorious over Colo Nesco in an 11-4 game, highlighted by a three-run homerun by Boerm. Then, NU and North Tama took the field in a battle of ranked opponents. Tyler Cizek pitched six innings, striking out ten and surrendered four runs, one of which was earned. NT struggled against NU pitching, leaving runners on base in many cases. The Panthers came out on top 6-2, giving the Redhawks their first loss of the season. Cizek finished the day with 6 hits, while Boerm and Dalton Hulme each belted a homerun.

After four games, Tyler Cizek leads the team with ten hits, eight RBI, and also leads in batting average. Jacob Wrage leads with four stolen bases, nine runs scored, and has drawn nine walks in seventeen plate appearances.
