Boys track team finishes fifth in opener

The North Tama High School boys track team opened the 2012 season with a fifth place finish at the Dunkerton Raiders Invitational at Denver on April 3rd.

The team earned a total of 60 points through its work in the individual and relay events.

One of the highlights of the day was a first place finish for Mitchell Boerm in the High Jump. Boerm hit a high of 5′ 10″ in the event, earning the maximum 10 points for the Redhawks.

In the Shot Put, Chris Droullard finished fifth with a throw of 38′ 1.25″, earning the team two points. Nick Whannel also earned a point with a throw of 37′ 9.25″.

Whannel had an even more impressive second place finish in the Long Jump, earning eight points with a jump of 19′ 1″.

The individual running events were also a strong suit for the Redhawks, with Dalton Hulme winning the 800 Meter Run with a time of 2:12.00. Mitchell Boerm was close on his heels with a time of 2:15.00, good enough for second place.

Meanwhile, in the 100 Meter Dash, Clayton Blocker earned a point with his sixth place finish, clocking in at 12.03 seconds.

In the team events, the North Tama 4X800 Meter Relay squad earned a first place finish with a time of 9:02.00. The 4X200 Meter Relay group finished fifth with a time of 1:45.00.

In the 4X100, the boys finished fifth with a time of 50.12, to go along with a fourth place finish in the 4X400 at 3:54.00.

The other event in which the Redhawks earned points as a team was the 1600 Meter Medley Relay, where they finished fifth with a time of 4:30.00.

The team participated in another meet this week at South Tama High School on Monday, and against Hudson on Thursday. The Redhawks are back in action today at Benton beginning at 4:45 p.m.
