Watson wins cross country meet
North Tama’s Abi Watson won her first cross country meet of the season last week, finally breaking through after a string of top-five finishes during the 2012 season.
Watson, who participated in the state track meet as part of the North Tama track team this spring, is showing great promise as a distance runner in her second season of cross country.
She was the only competitor to break the 16-minute mark in the meet at BGM, finishing first with a time of 15:55.5, easily beating the second place finisher by almost a quarter minute.
Brandi Anne Daub came in 18th place with a 19:23.3, and Jordyn TeBeest finished 28th with a time of 20:22.2.
Rachel Kopriva and Alexis Taylor finished 33rd and 36th, respectively, with times of 20:57.8 and 21:11.1.
Robert Young ran a 21:31.8, earning him 33rd place on the boys’ side.
The Redhawks head to South Hardin for the second time this season on Saturday, September 29th for a meet at 9:30 a.m.
