JADCO Celebrates Dance

This year was “Time To Dance” and a good time was had by all. The Jeune Attente Dance Company (JADCO) Spring Recital on Sunday April 19, 2009 was “Rockin’ Around the Clock” to “Old Time Rock-N-Roll” with nearly sold out crowds for both performances. Clocks decorated the auditorium and lobby to set the stage for a variety of songs that included: Party Time, One Step at a Time, Get Me to the Church on Time, 9-5, and Tick Tock.

JADCO honored one graduating senior this year who did a wonderful solo with thoughts of love and support from her mother. Brooke Johnson, daughter of Martin and Sherri of Traer, began dancing at the age of four and has been with JADCO fourteen years. Brooke attended North Tama School where she was the coach for Elementary and Junior High Drill Teams, Captain of the High School Drill Team, and choreographer for all three teams and the NT Show Choir. She was also a member of Band, Flags, Show Choir, Mixed Chorus, Speech, National Honor Society and Student Council. Brooke will be attending Simpson College this fall with a major in biology working towards either pre-veterinary or pre-medicine degrees.

Our lead instructor Alisa Oliver also danced a solo this year. Alisa’s grandmother, a huge inspiration and supporter, had wanted her to dance for several years and then she passed away. Alisa dedicated the dance to her memory.

A new addition to the program and recital this year was the Men’s Tap Class. Richard and Robert Leipold, dressed in pinstripes and fedoras, tapped to the tune of “Brown Derby”. The Leipold brothers, first year dancers, worked very hard to learn tap and a little swing which they danced to with partners Chandler Zeien and Ivy Werner. It was well received and a high point in the recital.

Next year Jeune Attente Dance Company will be celebrating its 20th Anniversary Recital. It will include lots of “blasts from the past” and great memories of all the hard work and dedication given by the Fine Arts Women Group, the dancers and their families throughout those years. If your son or daughter would like to be a part of our dance program, please call Cathy Neibergall at 319-476-5141. The early registration deadline is June 15 for the 2009-2010 dance season.
