Oops! Oops! Oops! Sorry we made a mistake. We reported in last weeks paper we were going to have blood pressure checks and wine tasting at our farmer market on June 17. Well, due to a miscommunication, that did not happen. Sorry! But– we are still going to have that event Mark your calendar for Wednesday, July 1, when we will be celebrating the upcoming holiday with red, white, and blue cookies and red punch. There also will be free American flags for everyone. We have contacted the John Ernest Vineyard and winery of Tama, and they have consented to bring a variety of their most famous wines to our market for tasting and sale. This is a Tama County made product and we are pleased to have them “show and tell” all about their wines and the business of wine making.

Another feature we have held for many years is our annual blood pressure check day. Sandra Whannel is kind enough to offer this service on that same day. Nutrition guides and pamplet will be available too. Of course-no charge.

We have so much to celebrate at the Traer Farmers Market. Along with all the activities going on, the vendors are reporting more fruit and vegetables available from their gardens every week. Now besides the first radishes and lettuce, fresh onions, kohlrabi, new potatoes, pea pods (sugar peas), cabbage and beets are now being harvested. Sure to follow soon will be green beans and the long awaited for sweet corn. Yum! The farmers market makes it easy to get your “5 a day” recommended.

And it’s all fresh-most likely harvested the day of market. That’s what makes it so good. Another feature available ever week are the bedding and landscaping plants.
