Two Groups Tour the Wilson Preserve

Although it is still early season for prairies, the Wilson Preserve is displaying plenty of flowers already. Spires of white indigo, clumps of tall meadow rue, blue from spiderwort and blue indigo can be seen now. Very soon the yellow oxeye sunflowers will open, as well as the brilliant orange butterfly milkweeds. There is much to see.

Tuesday morning, June 9, the Cedar Falls Garden Club visited the Wilson Preserve and on Thursday morning, June 11, a large group of members of the First Christian Church in Cedar Falls enjoyed the pleasant weather as they learned about the prairie from tour leaders, the Berners.

Only a few monarch butterflies have been seen so far. There are plenty of milkweed plants growing to provide their caterpillars favorite food, so we are hoping for more to arrive and lay eggs soon.
