50 years ago

The covered wagon came back in style last week when the Board of Supervisors places an embargo on all secondary roads due to mud. This prohibited school buses from running their routes so farmer took the children to school in wagons pulled by tractors.

Charles H. Grover of Clutier State Bank was elected as the president of the Tama County Bankers Association.

Mr. and Mrs. George Simpson are to open the Traer bakery this week in the Frank Nowadszky building.

Residential Construction in Traer increased 500 percent last year with six new homes.

Clutier was very nearly isolated by the mud blockade last week. As of late Monday of this week the only passable road for automobiles in and out of Clutier was the state road sex miles to highway 21.

The Clutier Board of Education has offered contracts to all members of the present teaching staff, with the salary increases ranging from $100.00 to $300.00.

100 Years ago

Fifty men attended the seed corn meeting at City Hall in Traer. Seed corn tested below 18 percent this year.

A passenger car taking the place of the bumblebee, wrecked Monday morning. Three people from Traer were on it but they were only badly bruise, no deaths resulted from the wreck.

Miss Flora Wilson will come back to Traer, her hometown and sing in May. Traer has be trying to get Miss Flora to come here and she finally agreed with a $300.00 charge.

The local High School will open the season with a game with Reinbeck High School on Saturday. Businessmen of Traer greatfully rented the ballpark.

A motor car which stood on the side tracks in Traer for three days was hitched and taking to be repaired. About a mile out of town the motor jumped the track and ran for one mile before stopping. Two men who had been inside the car working on it got the scared of theirs lives.

It is reported to us that an epidemic of the epizootic is raging among the guinea hens. Given a good start, the epizootic will go through a flock of guinea hens like a woodpecker through a tar roof.

April 3, 1930

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bahr residing northwest of Dysart are the parents of a daughter born March 29.

Mr. and Mrs. Geo. F. Lamprecht are the parents of a son born March 29.

April 4, 1940

Raymond Jesse and Eleanor Brunko were married Friday evening at Jubilee.

Most of the Dysart teachers were re-elected at a special board meeting held Monday night.

March 30, 1950

Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Paulsen are the parents of a son born Sunday morning.

The telephone rates will go up this year to $24 per year or $2 for residence phones and $27 a year for business phones.

April 7, 1960

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Dethlefs of Dysart announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Judith Ann, to Larry D Perkins of Cedar Rapids. A June 4, wedding is planned.

The Dysart Band Queen for the Waterloo Band Jubilee has been chosen and is Mardene Baldwin, a senior who plays the alto sax in the band.

April 2, 1970

Mr. and Mrs. Gene Wunder of Columbia, Mo., are the parents of their first child, a daughter, born March 26. She has been named Lara Anne.

Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Lechtenberg of Dysart announce the engagement of their daughter, Shirley, to Terry Geiger, son of Clifford Geiger of Vinton and the late Mrs. Geiger. A spring wedding is planned.

April 3, 1980

Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Baker of Boxholm announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Janet Sue, to William C. Wilson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Wilson of Dysart. A June 14, wedding is planned.

Mr. and Mrs. Loren Feuerbach are announcing the approaching marriage of their daughter, Catherine Anne, to Robert Allan Olson of Wellsburg. A May 31, wedding is planned.

April 12, 1990

Wedding vows were exchanged by KerriLynne Kae Krafka of Washington and Lance Michael Bell of Keota on March 15, at the Dysart United Methodist Church.

Edna Hupfeld will celebrate her 80th birthday with a card shower on April 15. Edna is now residing at the Virginia Gay Annex.

April 13, 2000

Robby and Stephanie Dengler are the parents of a son, Justis Robert Dengler, born on March 23.

Scott and Jennifer Bjornsen of Marion became the proud parents of their first child and son born on Sunday, April 9. He has been named Connor Lee.
