On Wednesday, May 27th, Traer Girl Scout Troop 260 held their awards ceremony at the United Presbyterian Church. Prior to the awards ceremony, a meal was prepared by the troop and served to the families. The meal consisted of salad, chicken parmesan, garlic bread, lemon bars, brownies and lemonade and was prepared as the final requirement for the “Creative Cooking” badge. Projects were also on display.

The ceremony began with President Sara Howard opening with the posting of the flags carried by Olivia Pargeon and Rachel Kopriva. Alexa Dostal led the troop and families in the Pledge of Allegiance, the Girl Scout Promise, and the Girl Scout Law. Anna Kvidera welcomed the families and then Katie Brandvig, Destany Himschoot, and Abi Watson presented information on the requirements to complete each of the three badges we earned: Fashion Design, Writing for Real, and Creative Cooking.

The troop also earned the Girl Scout Bronze Award. This is the highest award that a Junior Girl Scout can earn. It shows that each of the scouts have made a promise to help others, improve our community and world, and become the best we can be. Each scout was required to work 10-15 hours towards this award in addition to requirements completed over the past two years. Our Bronze Award project consisted of entering the salt and pepper shaker inventory into a database for the Salt & Pepper Shaker Museum. We completed approximately half of the inventory prior to the awards ceremony. The requirements for the Bronze Award helped us learn how to be organized, how to work together, how to use a spreadsheet and improved our reading, typing, and communication skills.
