North Tama holds NHS Appreciation Dinner

By Jeremy Wrage

On Tuesday March 17, 2009, the High School National Honor Society held its annual Parent’s Appreciation Dinner. The Parent’s Appreciation Dinner is a time where NHS members can thank their parents and families for all of the support and help they have given them through their lives.

The NHS members not involved in after school activities started preparing the dinner Tuesday right after school. The first thing they had to do was boil the noodles. Next they had to fry the beef, along with the sauce. When they were done making the sauce and the frying of the beef, they mixed both the beef and the sauce and cooked them together. When the members involved with after school activities finished their practices, they came to help out. The cooking took place in Mrs. Janice Halupnick’s FCS Room.

When the noodles and the sauce were finished cooking, it was time to put the garlic bread into the oven. With the bread in the oven, it was time for the members to practice the skit they were going to put on for the parent’s entertainment. Members who participated in the skit were juniors Carston Calderwood, Jeremy Wrage, Morgan Halupnick, and seniors Marah Jacobs, Catie Thompson, and Sarah Schrier.

Next it was time for the dinner. All of the parents arrived and the skit was performed. When the skit was over, the senior parents and their families were first through the line. Along with the spaghetti and garlic bread, salad and fruit punch were served. All of the members were assigned different items to bring for the dinner to happen. When the dinner was completed, brownie Sundays with vanilla ice cream were served.

Mrs. Roz Stull commented on the dinner and said, “The achievements of the students are a direct result of their parents’ guidance and support. I believe it is important for the students to acknowledge the efforts of their parents. The dinner provides an opportunity to express our appreciation to the families of our NHS students.”

NHS President Brooke Johnson also commented on the dinner saying, “The work we put into the dinner was worth it because the parents appreciated it and they deserve to be appreciated for all they have done for us.”
