Redhawks Earn Post Season Honors

By Kelsey Upah

Spring sports are just beginning, and winter sports are being wrapped up. A few of North Tama’s basketball athletes ended the 2008-2009 season with post-season awards.

The Redhawk boys basketball team had three members named to all conference teams. Sophomore Lucas Hefty received Honorable Mention All-Conference, sophomore Brendon Boerm received Second Team All-Conference, and senior Wyatt Hanus received First Team All-Conference. Hanus was also selected to Third Team All-State as well as being selected to the IBCA All Sub-State Team Class 1A Sub-state 4. He was one of eight players from our sub-state as voted on by the coaches in the sub-state. Head boys basketball coach, Brandon Clubb, reflected on the post season by stating, This is the first time since I’ve been coaching that I’ve had an athlete on an all-state team. All of the athletes that earned post-season honors did so while being great team players that stayed within the system. Wyatt getting All-State honors showed how good of an athlete he is in both football and basketball.

The Redhawk girls basketball team also had two players that received post season awards. Freshman Kailey Kladivo received Honorable Mention All-Conference, and Sophomore Erin Herink received Second Team All-Conference. Head coach Brandon Krusey commented on the season by saying, The awards are a good recognition for their hard work. We played a lot of close games and are close to turning the corner. There was a tremendous effort given by everyone.
