Union Middle School was well represented at National History Day on March 27 at the Grout Museum. Students extensively researched a topic relating to this year’s theme of “Actions and Legacies.” Students could choose to write a paper, create an exhibit, perform, produce a documentary, or create a website about a person in history who has made a significant impact. This year UMS had entries in each category. A performance group of Kristin Lowe, Sarah Ternus, and Emily Dalluge advanced to state competition in Des Moines on May 4. They wrote and performed a play based on the actions and legacy of P.T. Barnum. Thirteen UMS students formed a History Day Club that met weekly to research and prepare their projects. Students were guided in their research by Stacy Stull, Janice Heth, Rita Eikamp and Hope Hix.
