National Honor Society Induction night was held last Thursday evening at the High School in Traer. National Honor Society, otherwise known as NHS, was established in 1921 in Pittsburgh, PA. NHS was established to recognize outstanding high school students. NHS students show excellence in four different areas: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character.
The ceremony started at 7pm and lasted about an hour. The induction started with Mrs. Rozella Stull, the NHS sponsor, greeting the small audience there. Providing the entertainment was senior, Nora Seda with her All State Speech called Fool Proof High School Dance. Next, the juniors recognized the seniors in NHS. The senior NHS students are: Lucille Howard, the NHS President, Nora Seda, Vice. President, Carston Calderwood, the Treasurer, Kelsey Upah, the Secretary, Sean Dengler and Jeremy Wrage as Executive Board Members, Amanda Arp, Student Council Representative, and Emily Ewoldt, Morgan Halupnick, Amanda Hoeg, and Dylan Youel.
The seniors then introduced the inductees who were: Sydney Fehr, Kailey Kladivo, Jordan Mask, Winston Miller, Emily Pargeon, Erica Podhajsky, and Brian Seda. To be in NHS you must have a 3.25 GPA. If the student meets this requirement the student then must fill out an Activity sheet listing their leadership roles, the community service they have done, and the awards they have received. The student must also write an essay on one of three topics, Better Education, What they could contribute to the school, or their dream for North Tama. After all of the students have turned in the essays and their activity sheet a review team of five faculty members look through them and approve those they think qualify. Mrs. Stull ended the ceremony with a thanks to all those who went to the ceremony and to have a safe drive home.
