Thursday evening the Gladbrook-Reinbeck School Board approved the elementary and high school handbooks. The high school handbook set guidelines on Internet policy and 1:1 laptops. Students will be required to keep their laptops in their lockers with a lock on them when they are not being used in a class or during lunch. It is the responsibility of the student to maintain their laptops using proper care and responsibility. Students wishing to take their laptops home after school hours need to pay a $50 fee otherwise they will be required to check them into the office at the end of the day.

Some of the weight room equipment that was purchased by G-R Schools, booster club or donated over the past 10 years was sold to area schools that were interested. As part of the weight room renovation this equipment will not be needed in the Gladbrook or Reinbeck weight rooms and will be replaced with new equipment. Total sales was $1,400. The $6,000 the school committed toward the project will be directed toward new flooring for the facility. John Olson’s fundraising goal is $33-36,000 and $29,500 has been raised. An anditional $8,900 is expected to come in this summer.

The board adopted a resolution authorizing approval of a lease purchase agreement between Apple Inc and the G-R School District for the 1:1 laptops. Total cost of the project is $329,932 with the first lease payment of $$86,298.25 due at the end of the month.

Amanda Bridges was hired as the vocal music instructor for K-12. She has five years of teaching experience in Missouri and Oklahoma.

The board accepted the resignation of Kassi Nelson as assistant golf coach, pending suitable replacement.

The 2nd reading of board policy 701.4 GASB 54 was waived and the policy was adopted, giving the board secretary the power to assign fund balances.

The IAEP Cooperative Food Agreement was approved. The purchase of a 2012 78 passenger transient style bus from School Bus Sales was approved for $81,986 with a $10,000 trade-in allowed for bus 14. Other bids were received from Hoglund Bus Sales and Thomas Bus Sales.

Supt. Tim Kuehl gave an update on summer projects and said the boilers at the Gladbrook campus have been disassembled. Other ongoing projects are mud jacking and a chair lift at the high school along with some concrete work.

Shelli Smoldt, Shanna Goos and Cheryl Pease have completed their three year terms on the District Advisory Committee. Three new individuals will be needed to replace them. Anyone interested should contact the superintendent’s office.

The Buildings and Grounds committee will meet Thursday, July 14, 5:30 pm in Reinbeck and the next regular board meeting will be Thursday, July 21, 6:30 pm in Reinbeck.
