North Tama celebrates Dot Day!
Under the guidance of music teacher Terry Shay, students at North Tama observed International Dot Day last Thursday, Sept. 15. Dot Day – a celebration of courage and creativity – was founded by Shay back in 2009 in conjunction with Peter H. Reynolds, author/illustrator of the children’s book “The Dot” which served as inspiration for the now worldwide event. From preschool classrooms to high school art/music rooms, North Tama students used their creativity on Thursday to “make the world a more colorful place” in the words of Reynolds. While in the past Dot Day has been celebrated in its Traer birthplace with large, all-school events, this year’s celebration was more low-key, Shay said, localized to individual classrooms. Classrooms celebrating this year included Danica Minard’s K-6 art classes, Jill Miller’s Pre-K class, Anne Turner’s kindergarten class, the third-grade classes of Hannah Roeding and Brittany Svoboda, and Shay’s K-6 music classes and JH/HS Chorus.
