It was a busy, busy Saturday night in Dysart last weekend for Santa and Mrs. Claus who made a stop by the Dysart Community Building.

The jolly couple welcomed dozens of children to the lower level of the building from 5 to 7 p.m. as part of Soup with Santa sponsored by Club Dysart and in conjunction with Dysart-Geneseo Elementary PTO’s annual Holiday Gift Shop.

After visiting with Santa and Mrs. Claus, many of the children and their families in attendance then elected to head upstairs to enjoy soup, macaroni and cheese, a wide assortment of baked goodies, and hot cocoa in the bustling community room.

Also upstairs, there was a near constant stream of excited children heading in and out of the PTO’s holiday shop where youngsters were able to shop for their family members from tables stocked with items priced just 25 cents up to $5.

At the same time, a holiday platter/pie raffle took place in the entryway with proceeds benefiting Club Dysart’s 4th of July celebration.

Later in the evening, Dysart Development Corporation’s Catch the Glow Holiday Light Cruise made its way around Dysart to peruse the impressive selection of holiday lights on display this year in both the city park and at residents’ homes.

“We have the best community and owe so much to our volunteers,” Club Dysart posted on its Facebook page following the event.

“Thank you to those that donated the soup (Kurt Alpers, Brenda Kriz, Harper’s Public House, KE Black Mercantile, & Michelle Bruce); Jane Kaiser for the raffled pies, and multiple individuals for the goodies that went into the raffled dessert trays; those that worked the event; Tama Benton Cooperative for donating the hot chocolate and delicious cookies from Cakes By Lori; and of course to Santa and Mrs. Claus for joining us tonight!”
