TRAER – Members of the public packed the bleachers of the North Tama High School gym last Tuesday, Oct. 17 for the district’s annual Parade of Bands concert. Under the direction of band instructor Channing Halstead, the fifth grade, sixth grade, junior high, and high school bands performed. The high school band – its members festively dressed in Halloween costumes including everything from construction workers to The Smurfs villain Gargamel – opened the concert from the bleachers’ student section by performing the classic “Kokomo.” Next up, the fifth grade band – which Halstead said had only been practicing together for a few weeks – expertly performed several of their music book selections. The sixth grade band took the center spot next performing “Shadow Fire,” after which the junior high band played the movie theme arrangement “The Avengers.” While the high school band played both “Brown Eyed Girl” and “Escape (Pina Colada Song)” between the other bands’ sets, they closed out the show by performing “Highlights from Jersey Boys.” Just prior to the finale, Halstead recognized her program’s senior members including Emily Hulme (flute), Olivia Stickles (bass clarinet), Kinsley Even (alto sax), Larissa Morrison (alto sax), Alex Meggers (trumpet), Jared Dvorak (trombone), Ryan Hosek (percussion), Case Monat (percussion), and Isabel Hallett (percussion).
