Give the gift of an experience

Looking for a unique gift to surprise your grandson, daughter or nephew this year? Give the gift of an experience they’ll love! Tama County 4-H opens many of their workshops and events to all youth! We have several options to choose from for camps, workshops and trips in 2024! We’ll supply a gift certificate in a gift box along with the bow to be given to your loved one for the holidays or birthday.

Cricut Workshop: 4-12th graders will explore how a Cricut works and get creative making items to take home. January 20 from 9 to noon at the Tama County Extension Office. Cost is $10 and registration is due by January 12.

Frosting Workshop: 4-12th graders will learn how to make safe frosting and differing decorating techniques. February 17 from 9 to noon at the Tama County Extension Office. Cost is $10.

Lock-In: Get locked in the Marshalltown YMCA/YWCA for the evening of February 23-24 (begins at 9:30 p.m. on the 23rd and ends at 6 a.m. on the 24th). This is for youth in grades 4-8 and we will have Marshall, Grundy and Hardin Counties joining us. Throughout the night we will use our hands for larger service in a community service project, take part in teambuilding activities, be creative in completing a project and make new friends and memories. And there is swimming, basketball, racquetball and for those who want to sleep, a place to do so! Cost is $25 for 4-H members and $30 for non members. Registration deadline is February 14.

Terrarium Workshop: 4-12th graders will build and learn how to make a terrarium on March 16 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Tama County Extension Office. Cost is $20.

Rock Engraving Workshop: 4-12th graders will learn how to engrave a rock and learn about the career. The tentative date is April 13.

Junior Camp: Completed 4-6th grade on Friday, June 21 at 5 p.m. and ends at 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 22 at Pilgrim Heights Camp & Retreat Center (rural Montour). Cost is $100 for 4-H members and $130 for non members. Registration deadline is June 10.

If the person receiving the gift cannot attend the event, the registration fee will be refunded if canceled prior to the registration deadline. The fees for service will be used to offset the direct expenses of the program.

The Iowa 4-H Youth Development Program provides opportunities for youth to develop skills that they can use now and throughout their lives. Iowa 4-H builds upon a century of experience as it fosters positive youth development that is based on the needs and strengths of youth, their families and communities.
