LA PORTE CITY – Adam Brehm, a senior at Union High School, was recently announced as a 2024 National Merit Scholarship Finalist. Brehm is one of only 15,000 seniors receiving the designation out of 1.3 million students who entered the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Students enter the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) the fall of their junior year. From this test, less than 1% of students – the highest-scoring entrants in each state – are classified as semifinalists. A semifinalist must submit a detailed scholarship application, write an essay, earn either SAT or ACT scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance, and be endorsed and recommended by their high school.

As a National Merit Scholarship Finalist, Brehm is in the running to receive a $2,500 scholarship and the honor of receiving the title of National Merit Scholar. This will also open doors for larger scholarships at universities.

Brehm is the son of Lyle and Jennifer Brehm of Dysart.
