Geneseo Alumni hosts 83rd banquet in honor of school’s 102nd anniversary
BUCKINGHAM – Fifty-nine alumni and guests attended the 83rd Geneseo School Alumni Banquet held at the Geneseo Methodist Church on Saturday, June 8. Earlier in the day over 30 participants enjoyed the displays at the Traer Historical Museum.
The celebration started with the Pledge of Allegiance and the school fight song “On Geneseo.”
There were 14 different classes represented and two faculty members. Members of the oldest classes represented were Dean Abbott from the Class of 1950 and Don Taylor from the Class of 1951.
Alumni traveled from Iowa, Minnesota, Nevada, Florida, and Nebraska.
Six members of the Class of 1964 were in attendance and celebrating their 60th graduation anniversary.
A special dedication of the silver basketball trophy honoring the 1930 state champions of Tama County was made. The trophy was found among articles that had been moved from the Geneseo School to Dysart when the schools merged. It will now have a home as part of the Geneseo display at the Traer Historical Museum.
To close the celebration, museum board member Carol Boyce presented a very interesting talk on ‘Happenings in Geneseo Township’ from 1864 to today. Boyce spoke of the many fires, tornadoes, accidents, drownings, and even two suicides that have taken place in the township over the years.
