Dysart Historical Society hosts annual ‘Country School Day’
DYSART – The Dysart Historical Society’s annual Country School Day was held on Tuesday, July 23, and was another great success with the theme ‘An 1890″s Country School Day.’
Eleven girls and boys spent the day in an 1890s country school environment in the Historical Society’s local restored country school.
The teacher for the third year running was Shelby Janssen who teaches at Gladbrook-Reinbeck Elementary School.
Activities this year included stories, some math, creative writing, reading and handcraft activities. The students also went on a ‘field trip’ to the three additional museums along with fun recess activities.
A traditional 1890s lunch was served. Each student’s lunch was served in a ‘lunch bucket’ which had been contributed several years ago by Farmers Cooperative Telephone Company.
At the end of the day, the students presented a short program for their parents and other guests.
The 2025 Country School Day theme will be ‘West on the Orphan Train.’ Watch for the date and details in the spring of 2025.
