Schmidt appointed to at-large school board vacancy

Cady Schmidt.
DYSART – On Wednesday, Oct. 9, during the Union school board’s special meeting held in Union Middle School’s media center, board members appointed Dysart resident Cady Schmidt to the open at-large seat which was vacated last month by Corey Lorenzen of La Porte City after he resigned on Sept. 10.
Schmidt was one of four individuals to submit paperwork for the seat ahead of the meeting; the other candidates were Jason Feldt, Stephen Michael, and Mike Spence. Board members used ranked choice voting to make their selection with Schmidt receiving 13 points, Spence receiving 10 points, and Feldt receiving six points.
Schmidt’s appointment was unanimously approved during the brief meeting by the full board pending her acceptance; Schmidt accepted the appointment later that week. She will be officially sworn during the regular monthly meeting which is set for Monday, Oct. 21, beginning at 6 p.m. at the high school in La Porte City.
