LA PORTE CITY – The Union Community School District is seeking feedback on the general obligation bond referendum considered by voters last fall as district leaders explore options for addressing facility and infrastructure needs.

The anonymous community survey is now available online at https://dgsurveys.com/r/unioncsdbond. The survey takes about seven minutes to complete and will be open until Sunday, March 30.

In November 2024, Union CSD residents considered a $20.5 million bond referendum proposed to address facility and infrastructure challenges at each of the district’s campuses in La Porte City and Dysart. The measure fell six votes short of the 60% supermajority approval required by state law.

“We are grateful for the engagement in 2024 and appreciate that the majority of those who voted supported our plans,” Superintendent John Howard said. “We now want to hear our community members’ thoughts about the referendum and learn more about their vision for the future of our schools as we continue to explore solutions to the facility challenges our students and staff face.”

The decision to pursue a bond referendum in 2024 was the result of more than two years of planning by Union CSD officials. This process included professional facility assessments completed by architects and engineers, feasibility studies, consultation with district staff and community members, and the consideration of multiple project plans.

Input gathered from the survey will be considered by the School Board and administration as part of their ongoing facility planning efforts.
