Union partners with ZeroEyes for AI gun detection technology

LA PORTE CITY – Union Community School District has partnered with ZeroEyes to implement an AI-based gun detection system, becoming the first Iowa school district east of Interstate 35 and one of only a handful statewide to adopt this technology.

ZeroEyes’ software integrates with the district’s security cameras to identify firearms in real time. If a weapon is detected, images are immediately sent to the ZeroEyes Operations Center, staffed 24/7 by military and law enforcement veterans. Within three to five seconds, verified threats are communicated to first responders and Union staff, improving response times and enhancing school security.

“Safety is our number one priority,” Superintendent John Howard said. “Our students deserve a secure learning environment, and we are proud to lead the way in using innovative tools to protect them.”

While Union schools have no history of gun violence, the district views ZeroEyes as a proactive safety measure.

“This technology is an important step forward,” Union Board of Education President Ben Schemmel said. “We can never be too prepared when it comes to school safety. By adopting ZeroEyes, Union is leading the way in implementing innovative security measures to protect students and staff.”
