Union students set district records with Spring 2025 ISASP scores

LA PORTE CITY – Union Community School District students set new district records in the spring 2025 Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP).
The average district English language arts proficiency has grown to 86%, marking a 7% increase from last year. Ninth graders tested the highest out of all grade levels, with a 97% proficiency rate. Seven out of eight class cohorts experienced growth from last year, with 8th grade gaining 13% proficiency.
“These results reflect the hard work of our amazing teachers, the strength of the systems built, and our steady focus on student growth,” Director of Curriculum Corindy Stoakes said. “This kind of success is not accidental–it’s the result of a team effort across our schools. I’m so proud of what our students and staff have accomplished together.”
Math proficiency has risen to 82%, which is a 1% gain from 2024. Third graders demonstrated the highest math proficiency, with a 91% rate. In science, the average district proficiency rate is 76%, a 4% increase from last year.
“I am delighted with and proud of these scores,” Superintendent John Howard said. “Our district has made positive strides in terms of curriculum alignment to standards. These scores reflect the outstanding impact of our recent efforts. I continue to be amazed by the work of our students, staff, and families.”
