Let’s hear it for the boy(s)!

TRAER – The boys were back on the North Tama stage twice last week as part of the music department’s annual Swing Show – during a matinee on Wednesday, March 11, and an evening performance on Thursday, March 12. While male students have always been well represented in band, choir has experienced a dearth of male members in recent years leading to this year’s Swing Show theme, Bringin’ Back the Boy Bands! Choir students Chance Grimm and Silas Johnson along with several male band members participated in many of the stage performances this year. The 2026 North Tama Swing Show was expertly organized by 5-12 band director Channing Halstead and long-term vocal music substitute Erin Daniel with assistance from North Tama Dance head coach Amber Monat. The show marked the final performance of the year for the dance squad. “We had a lot of fun creating our coed dance battle with the boys,” Monat told the newspaper. “The girls all killed it with their solo/duets – which they choreographed themselves. Watching their growth, confidence, and improvement throughout the year has been incredible. This team worked hard and truly shined on the floor. We are so proud of them and can’t wait to see what next season brings.”
Thank you to Amy Lidgett with Amy’s Images for sharing her photographs of the matinee performance with the newspaper. Further gratitude is due to North Tama English teacher Michelle Bolin who also kindly shared photographs with the newspaper taken by yearbook photographer Myah Finzen.
