LA PORTE CITY – Union Community School District students achieved the highest science assessment results in district history on the spring 2026 Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP).

Combined science proficiency scores across grades 5, 8, and 10 reached their highest levels since Iowa introduced the ISASP in 2018. In addition, Union’s 10th grade students earned the highest science results ever recorded by the district.

“These results reflect the hard work of our students and staff, as well as the tremendous support of our families,” Superintendent John Howard said. “Achieving the highest science scores in district history is a significant accomplishment, and we are incredibly proud of everyone who contributed to this success. Our students continue to demonstrate what is possible when high expectations, strong instruction, and community support come together.”

The ISASP is Iowa’s statewide assessment system, measuring student achievement in science, mathematics, and English language arts. Science assessments are administered to students in grades 5, 8, and 10.

The district is still awaiting literacy and mathematics ISASP results from the Iowa Department of Education and will share additional information once those results become available.
