June 11
Traer family home when fire broke out- The Traer Fire Department was summoned to the house at 804 Elm Street, Traer, Sunday, June 7 at 7:05 p.m. The fire was believed to have started from an electical problem. The residents were home at the time the fire broke out and no one was injured.

Alarm stops burglary of local business- On Thursday, June 11 at around midnight, Silver Streak Lanes and Restuarant was broken into. Entry was forced into a window on the side of the building. Once inside the would be thieves tripped the alarm and fled the building using the front door.

July 2
Taylor Park Sign getting a makeover- The entrance sign to Taylor Park is being sand blasted and repainted. The Traer Beautification group went to the City Council and requested Local Option Tax money to refurbish the sign. The Traer City Council set aside $3000 to help with the project.
Local business suffers damaging break-in-The glass in the front door entrance at Gas-N-Grub was knocked out durning a break-in late Sunday night or Monday morning.
Clutier First Responders and Traer Ambulance service volunteers respond to a accident scene last Tuesday, June 23, in Clutier. The driver of the vehicle, Gary Kupka, 64, of Clutier was pronounced dead at the scene and an autopsy pending.
Engagements/Weddings: Melvin L. Bohnstengel and Barbara A. Hertz would like to announce their upcoming July wedding. The couple will exchange vows on Friday, July 24 at 4:00 p.m. at the Traer Memorial Building in Traer.
Milestones: Paul and Paulette Wobeter, rural Toledo, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary June 28.
They were married in La Junta, Colo. and have farmed all those years until recent retirement.
Dr. Harry S. Bezman, revered physician of Traer and the surrounding community, will be celebrating his 100th birthday on July 7th. A party will be held in his honor with friends and family.

Three groups honored at dedication ceremony for the new scoreboard for the baseball field-Members of the American Legion, Kubik Finch post, were honored at a dedication ceremony that took place last Thursday, July 2, just prior to the vasity baseball game.

Traer Historical Museum Loans Orphan Train Coat to Dysart Museum.
An extra special feature of this year’s Winding Stairs Festival is “Movie Under The Stars,” sponsored by Traer Short Stop, at 9:00pm on Thursday, August 6, at the North Tama Athletic Complex.
VBS Kicks off with a Hot Dog Cookout.
The Redhawks finished the season in second place in the Iowa Star Conference with a record 11-4 and had an over all record of 16-11.
Six baseball players earn Iowa Star Conference honors.
The Traer Historical Museum will be opening the Endicott Folk Art Exhibit August 6 in conjunction with this year’s Winding Stairs Festival. The recently acquired collection of 1930’s and 1940’s folk art carvings contains a variety of carvings reflective of the artist’s life. W.O.Z. Endicott, a Traer resident of many years, created the carvings with only the use of a pen knife. The public is encouraged to view this unique collection and learn more about the artist. There is no admission charge.

Traer City Council receives update on gas franchise.
A Silent Veteran’s Parade kicked off Clutier Fun Days this year on Friday, July 31. A group of veterans from all over the county marched down Main Street in Clutier where a prayer was given to honor those who served our country and those who made the ultimate sacrifice with their lives. Arnold Vileta, 100 years old, was the honored guest at the parade. Vileta is the oldest living veteran in Tama County. Vileta is a veteran of WW II.

A tractor accident west of Clutier claimed the life of 56 year old Ronald Perrin of rural Clutier.
Chris Cooper is 38 years old, born to Judy Cooper and Tom Cooper and was raised throughout his life in the Reinbeck area. He has two brothers, Matt in Reinbeck and Brent in Des Moines.
James Weida runs the ball in for a touchdown after an interception at the North Tama season opener against Midland. Weida ran the ball 32 yards for the six points. The Redhawks won the game 56-0.

In the City Council race in Traer, four individuals turned in papers for the two open seats. Incumbent, Lou Rausch will seek re-election. Also running are Cynthia Buresh, Randy Kvidera and Lee Wiges.

Leonard began his 25 year tenure as an official weather observer in October of 1984. Leonard provides the National Weather Service with rainfall information on a daily and monthly basis for the city of Traer.

Chairman, Bruce Overton, presents Vice Chairman, Dann Larmore, a plaque of recognition to his 11 years that he served on the Traer Municipal Utilities Board. Larmore officially resigned on Thursday, Nov. 5 at the regular TMU board meeting.
The North Tama Redhawks celebrate the tenth shut-out of the season. The Redhawk defense proved to be unstoppable again for the WACO Warriors. The Redhawks defeated WACO 39-0 in the quarterfinal round of Class A state football playoffs. The Redhawks play Friday, Nov. 13 at 10:30 a.m. in the UNI-Dome against Mason City Newman in the semifinal round.

No title, but no shortage of success for NT- It’s been quite a ride for North Tama’s class of 2010. This year’s senior football players saw the highest highs on the gridiron in Redhawk history, and also befell some of its most gutwrenching defeats.

Holiday Happenings kick-off in Traer.
On Friday, Nov. 20 emergency crews were summoned to Farm Service, north of Traer, concerning an anhydrous leak from one of their lines at the site.
Nearly 40 years after trekking almost four miles through the dense canopy jungle of Vietnam to save 100 American soldiers from behind enemy lines a group of Vietnam war veterans was finally recognized for their work last month.
Chelsea Kvidera, a senior at Mount Mercy College wrapped up a terrific cross country career this past weekend in Vancouver, Wash.
Milestones: Evelyn Harrison is celebrating her 98th birthday with a surprise card shower and dinner with family.
Allen Goodwin will be celebrating his 90th birthday on November 30.

Regions bank in Traer Closing doors-The Regions Bank office located in Traer, will be closing its doors in 2010. Local employees confirmed the closing, but were unable to comment further.
Mayor Russell Drinovsky and Council member Patty Guzman both attended their last council meeting on Monday, Dec. 7. Neither sought re-election this year in the city elections.

North Tama Music Department receives grant-The North Tama Music Department received a grant of $10,000 from the Traer Community Foundation to go towards the restoration of the Grand Piano. Redhawks take down CAL-On December 18 the North Tama Redhawk’s girls basketball team suffered a sad conference loss against CAL 45-34 at home. The girls began to bring the game back in the last quarter,with 13 points, but it was not enough this game.
