Elberon Auxiliary treats Legion

On Thursday Feb.10 the Elberon American Legion enjoyed a nice Valentine Noon meal with the Legion and friends. Gentlemen attending were George Hayek, Wayne Christenson, Dick Prusha, Russel Kesl, Elmer Chalupsky, Herb Gettle, Dick Sauer, Vernon Parizek, Frank Nekola, Wayne Rayman and George Vileta.

The Unit meeting commenced at 1:30 p.m. with President Loraine Vileta chairing. Marce Nekola presented the flags. Chaplain Dorothy Hayek read scripture and prayer. The Pledge and Preamble were recited and the National Anthem was sung with accompaniment by Pat Sauer.

Officer Roll was called and January minutes read by Secretary Mame Chalupsky. Betty Prusha, treasurer, gave the financial report, which was filed for audit.

The president reported our Standing Rules were accepted by Department. Copies were given to officers. A pin fine was paid by Shirley Christenson. News from Department states dues maybe raised $4 next year. Members decided to retain ours at $15.

We have one Scholarship applicant so far. There will be no foreign food fair this March. There will be a County Meeting in Elberon on Feb. 22. Everyone enjoyed looking at the old valentines, some from 1923 brought by Pat Sauer. They were saved by her mother, Esther Hlas from her school days. Esther never threw anything out!

Received were thank you cards from Kalyn Nekola , Pat Daniels and a nice note from Della Sweet for always remembering her. Remember the County Meeting at Elberon 7 p.m. Next Unit Meeting March 1O.

We closed with retirement of flags, a prayer for peace and the Auxiliary closing.

Marne read “Smile, it is contagious.” Shirley Christenson won the door prize. After the meeting we packed two postal boxes for Jeff Vore serving in Afghanistan.

There were home goodies and other foods, puzzles, special coffee he likes, batteries, pens and pencils, smoked oysters, cheese and crackers, ritz crackers, animal cookies – you name it! It was quite an assortment. We hope he and his buddies enjoy it.
