The Knights traveled to Oelwein on Friday, May 25, and came back home with a pair of losses.

Two Oelwein Husky home runs proved to be the difference as the Knights lost their season-opener 5-1.

The Knights struggled to muster up any sort of offense as freshmen Justin Carey provided the only hit, an RBI single that plated Austin Kiler in the top of the fifth. That single cut the Husky lead in half, 2-1, but Oelwein muscled up with two late homers to put the game away 5-1.

Nic Peters suffered the defeat despite pitching six strong innings and allowing only four hits.

In game 2, the Knights once again could not string together hits and were shutout by the Huskies, 5-0. In addition to the poor offensive display, the Knights had six errors which led to all five of the Husky runs.

Ted Tecklenburg provided a spark in the two spot notching two hits in three at bats but only one other Knight had a single hit in the nightcap.

Freshman Brady Driscol pitched four innings and gave up five runs, all unearned, in the losing effort. Bo Bader was a bright spot for Union as he pitched two scoreless innings in relief, walking two and striking out four.

On Friday, June 1, the Knights traveled to Hudson to take on the defending NICL champions.

With a lineup featuring multiple underclassmen, the Knights faced a tall task if they wanted to hang with the Pirates.

The Pirates would have nothing of it as they launched three home runs in the shortened affair.

Hudson jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Austin Goodnight hit a long two-run homer to right field. Those four runs would prove to be enough as Hudson routed the Knights, 12-2.

Will Crees provided the only Union runs with a two-run double as Union scattered just five hits in five innings of play.

Nic Peters took the mound and pitched three innings, giving up nine hits, three of them being long balls. Brady Driscol pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief, striking out four batters.

The Knights play at Denver, Waverly Shell-Rock, and Jesup this week.
