Union sophomore Alex Barz was recently named to the Northeast Iowa Class 3A All-District Second Team for his outstanding play during the 2013 baseball season. Alex was voted to the Second Team as a catcher. Alex hit a red hot stretch during mid-season which created some team leading statistics. He hit .386 with a team leading 39 hits as well as 10 doubles. Hitting in the clean-up position for the later half of the year, Alex finished with 30 RBIs which also lead the team. Along with his catching duties, Barz also had a good year on the mound going 4-1 with a 3.00 ERA in 30 1/3 innings pitched. He struck out 29 batters and walked 15.
