Volleyball hopes for return to state tourney

11 straight matches. For any team, that’s quite a streak. For the ladies of the Union volleyball squad, 12 is the magic number.

After winning 11 straight, including the first two matches of regional play, the ladies need just one more win in the regional final against Iowa Falls to guarantee a trip back to the state tournament.

Overall, the Knights are 26-7 and have a chance to build on what was a very impressive showing last season. The ladies made it all the way to the state final and hope to go one step further in winning it all this year.

Junior Maria Wrage leads the team with 325 kills on the season, and the trio of seniors Breanna Allen, Jena Boisen and Raini Hilmer have all recorded over 149 kills apiece this year. Freshman Megan Hudson has also stepped up big to fill a void, recording 131 kills.

The serving game has also been solid for the Knights, with Breann Bader leading the team with 57 aces and also notching a .930 serving percentage. Boisen leads the team at .975.

Results of Tuesday’s regional final match against Iowa Falls will be included in next week’s edition.
