Girls end season, boys face top-seeded Clear Lake

Basketball season for the Union ladies came to a sudden end on Saturday with a 57-30 home loss to Independence in substate play.

The girls lose leading scorer Breann Bader, who averaged 14.4 points per game in 2013-14. Tessa Reiter, who averaged 3.2 points and 2.1 rebounds per game, also graduates this spring.

The Union boys (5-15) open postseason play with a tough February 24 date against Clear Lake (19-1) in the Class 3A District 5 bracket at 6:30 p.m. this Monday in Charles City. Should the Knights pull the upset, they face the winner of the Waverly-Shell Rock vs. Charles City matchup on February 27 in Mason City for a chance to go to the state tournament.
