Great year for Union Dance

The first dance performance of the season came at a home football game. For more photos, check out this week's print issue.

It has been a remarkable dance season for the Union Dance Teams. The season kicked off last August with a 48 hour camp hosted in Dysart. Dancers spent two days learning the football routine, developing technique, preparing choreography for the basketball season, participating in team building activities and having some fun!

The Union Dance Teams consisted of a Varsity Team, the first ever, JV Team and a Competition Team.

The Varsity Team kicked off their performance season at the first home football game, danced at seven home basketball games and closed out their season at the Union Dance showcase.

The JV Team was also ready for football season and performed at three home basketball games and the showcase.

Four dancers attended the Iowa State Solo Competition in Newton in November. Senior Leah Jungling and sophomores Nicole Lowe and Laryn Ewoldt received Division II ratings. Senior Kristen Lowe received a Division I rating.

The Competition Team was prepared for State by December and placed 5th at the Iowa State Dance & Drill Competition in Des Moines in December. Over 5000 dancers attended the event.

This year’s Union Dance Showcase was hosted at the Union MS in February. Over 200 attended the event which featured performances by the HS Teams and the Middle School Team.

In the next few weeks the HS Teams will wrap up their community service work and prepare for next year’s auditions in late April.

The High School Dance Team is coached by Katherine Ollendieck.
