Don’t miss Fun Night at Nature Center!

Dave Hoffman, Iowa DNR, will be providing an interesting program entitled “Trumpeter Swans in Iowa” as part of Fun Night for the Nature Center at Otter Creek Lake Park on April 2.

Everything is coming together for the annual “Fun Night for the Nature Center” fundraiser to be held on Saturday evening, April 2, at the Nature Center at Otter Creek Lake Park. Doors will open for the event at 5:30 p.m. for persons to view the auction items.

An “all you can eat” meal will be served at 6:00 p.m.. The meal will be prepared and served buffet style by the staff of “My Mother’s Place Catering” of Clutier. No one will go away hungry.

Following the meal at approximately 7:00 will be a program “Trumpeter Swans in Iowa” and will be presented by Dave Hoffman, Iowa DNR.

“Dave has been instrumental in the Trumpeter Swan Reintroduction Program in Iowa,” states Bob Etzel, Director, Tama County Conservation Board. “He has passionately worked to bring back Trumpeters in the state for over two decades. Also, it is rumored he may bring along a live trumpeter swan so folks can get a look at this beautiful resident of our state.”

The open auction is slated to begin immediately following the program and should start around 8:15 p.m. Marv and Nancy Boldt, Traer, will be running the auction again for this year’s event. Marv always provides an entertaining auction environment.

Items are still being donated for inclusion in both auctions and usually include everything from wildlife art prints to clothing, bird houses to collector farm toys and decorative waterfowl decoys. The silent auction will include many affordable items and is a lot of fun for all in attendance. “In the past several years the baked goods have become a very fun part of the auction,” adds Cathy Wieck, Dysart. “Kolaches, coffee cakes, tea rings and pies have all been donated.”

“The auction will include many beautiful items as always,” states Carolyn Adolphs, Traer. “Each year there are lovely items hand-made by local artisans. Folks will also be able to bid on wildlife art and small pieces of furniture.”

“Everyone is invited to come enjoy the evening and support their Nature Center,” adds George Corum of Tama. “It is really neat to see the continued support that residents and friends of Tama County have provided for this project.”

Since a dinner is being served ADVANCED TICKET SALES ARE REQUIRED. Tickets can be purchased by calling Bob at the Nature Center office at (641) 484-2231 or evenings at home at (641) 484-5764 or by contacting any of the fundraising committee or conservation board members.
