Kaufmann selected as Wendt Character Scholar

Paul Kaufmann, of Traer, was accepted into the prestigious Wendt Character Scholars program at the University of Dubuque (UD).

The program operates under the direction of the Wendt Center for Character Education, which promotes a campus culture of excellent moral character and purposeful lives. Sixty students were selected as scholars, and each received a $3,000 conditional scholarship. Scholars, who range from first-year students through University of Dubuque Theological Seminary students, come from all over the country and represent a variety of majors. Together, they discuss challenging, character-based topics; reflect on and form opinions; and practice excellent character. Additionally, each scholar commits to at least 15 hours of community service every semester.

Applications to the Wendt Character Scholar program are evaluated based on items such as good academic and behavioral standing, service experience, and answers to essay questions. Scholars are eligible for three years in the program.

Kaufmann is a sophomore majoring in computer graphics/interactive media at UD. He graduated from North Tama High School in 2015. Kaufmann’s parents, Paul and Brenda Kaufmann, live in Traer, Iowa.
